The new DIRECTV RC71, RC71B, RC72 and RC73 Genie RF Remote Controls are factory-set to Infrared (IR) Mode, so they can work with your earlier model receivers. To make your remote control other devices (e.g., your TV) follow these steps:
Step 1: Press and hold "MUTE" and "SELECT" at the same time until the green light flashes twice.
Step 2: Type in the 5-digit code for your brand. After entering the first digit, wait 1-2 seconds until the green light flashes, then type in the remaining 4 digits. If the remote supports the code the green light will flash twice.
Step 3: Aim the remote at your device and press "VOL+/-" or "MUTE". If your device does not react, try the next code for your brand until you find the correct one.
To pair the DIRECTV remote control to the Set Top Box, perform the following steps:
Step 1: Press and hold "MUTE" and "SELECT" at the same time until the green light flashes twice.
Step 2: Enter 9 6 1.
Step 3: Press and release "Channel Up".
Step 4: Enter the last 6 digits of the RID number located behind the Set Top Box.
Step 5: Press and release the "ENTER" key. The green light will flash twice.
To deactivate the RF Transmitter on the DIRECTV remote control, perform the following steps:
Step 1: Press and hold "MUTE" and "SELECT" at the same time until the green light flashes twice.
Step 2: Enter 9 6 1.
Step 3: Press and release "Channel Down". The green light will flash 4 times.
To reset all the functions of the remote control to the factory default settings following these steps:
Step 1: Press and hold "MUTE" and "SELECT" at the same time until the green light flashes twice.
Step 2: Using the number keys, enter 9 8 1. The green light will flash 4 times.
