Dish Network remote programming

Dish Network 21.1 4-device universal remote

Programming instructions for Dish Network 20.0, 20.1, 21.0, 21.1, 10.1, 8.0, 5.4, 6.4, 4.4, 4.3, 1.5, Platinum, Platinum Plus, etc. remote controls.

Direct code entry

Step 1: Press and hold the mode button for the device that you want the remote to control (e.g., "TV", "DVD" or "AUX") for about 3 seconds. When all the other mode buttons light up, release the mode button.

Step 2: Enter one of the 3-digit codes listed for your device using the buttons on the number pad.

Note: If you are programming a code into AUX mode, you must enter an additional digit before the actual device code: "0" for a second TV, "1" for a DVD/VCR, "2" for a Tuner, Amplifier, Audio Receiver or Cable TV Box.

Step 3: Press and release the Pound ("#") button. If the code is valid, the mode button backlight will blink 3 times.

Step 4: Test if the code works by pressing the "Power" button. If the device turns OFF, turn the device back ON and try some other buttons to make sure they work, as sometimes, the "Power" button may work when other buttons do not. If the code you entered does not work, repeat the procedure using another code from the code tables.

Notes:

  • This procedure also works for programming the newer 40.0+ remotes. You must press the mode button a little longer in step 1, and use a different 4 digit code.
  • To program an EZ remote, press and hold the "OFF-AIR Channel Control" button (the button below the "TV Power" with a Yagi antenna drawing) until both lights turn on (~5 seconds), then press and release "TV power" above it. After entering the code press and release "Mute" to exit programming mode.
  • To program a Basic remote, press and hold "TV POWER" until the red light comes on. Enter the code, then press and release "SELECT"/"OK" to exit programming mode.

Code search

If a device is not listed in the code tables or if the listed codes do not work, you can scan through all the codes, until you find one that controls your equipment.

Step 1: Press and hold the mode button for the device for about 3 seconds until all the other mode button backlights come on.

For AUX mode only: use the number buttons to enter a number as follows: "0" for a second TV, "1" for a VCR, and "2" for an Audio Tuner/ Amplifier or Cable Box. Then, press the Star ("*") button.

Step 2: Press the "Power" button.

Step 3: Press either "UP ARROW" or "DOWN ARROW" on the remote repeatedly (one press per second) until your device turns off. The "DOWN ARROW" button scans backwards, and the "UP ARROW" button scans forward. When all codes have been tried, the Mode button flashes 8 times.

Step 4: When the remote reaches the correct code, your device will turn OFF. If this happens, press the Pound ("#") button to store the code. The matching mode light will blink 3 times.

Step 5: Press the "Power" button to turn the device back ON. Try some other remote control buttons to make sure that you have found the right code.

Notes:

  • If you have an EZ remote, press and hold the "OFF-AIR Channel Control" button (the button below the "TV Power" with a Yagi antenna drawing) until both lights turn on (~5 seconds), then press and release "TV power" above it. Press and release "Channel Up" repeatedly until the TV turns off, then press and release "Mute" to exit Code Search.
  • If you have a Basic remote, press and hold "TV POWER" until the red light comes on. Press and release "TV POWER". Press and release "UP ARROW" slowly until the TV turns off, then press and release "SELECT"/"OK" to exit Code Search.

Code Retrieval

To find out what device code is set for each mode, do the following:

Step 1: Press and hold the mode button for about 3 seconds. When all the other mode button backlights come on, release the mode button.

Step 2: Press the Pound ("#") button twice. The mode light will flash the number for each digit of the programmed code, with a pause between the groups of flashes. A quick flash is for zero. For example, if the mode light flashes 5 times, pauses, flashes 7 times, pauses, and flashes quickly, the code is 570.

Notes:

  • To make an EZ remote flash out the code, press and hold the "OFF-AIR Channel Control" button (the button below the "TV Power" with a Yagi antenna drawing) until both lights turn on (~5 seconds), then press and release "TV power" above it. Press and release the "Mute" twice.
  • To make a Basic remote flash out the code, press and hold "TV POWER" until the red light comes on, then press and release "SELECT"/"OK" twice.
