How to Program a GE/Jasco Universal Remote Control

To find out the code(s) compatible with your device, see the GE remote control code lists for 3 digit or 4 digit GE remotes, or search for it here.

How to enter codes manually:

Step 1: Turn on the device (TV, DVD, VCR, Satellite receiver etc.) you wish to control.

Step 2: Press and hold the "CODE SEARCH" or "SETUP" button on the remote until the indicator light turns on, then release.

Step 3: Press and release the button for the device you are programming (TV, DVD, VCR, etc.). For AUX, press AUX button, then the device button you are assigning to AUX. The indicator light will blink then remain lit.

Step 4: Enter the 3 or 4 digit code using the number buttons. After the code is entered the indicator light will turn off.

Step 5: Aim the remote at the device you want to control and press the "POWER" button. Your device should turn off. If your equipment does not respond to the first code listed for your brand, repeat the code entry procedure with the next code. If the device turns off/on and responds correctly to common functions like Volume Up/Down or Program Up/Down, no further programming is required.

Notes:

  • The indicator light will either be a small LED at the top of the remote or the illuminated "ON/OFF" button.
  • If none of the codes listed for your brand work or your brand does not appear in the code lists, instruct your remote to perform a code search.

Auto Code Search (for newer models)

Step 1: Manually turn on the device you wish to control.

Step 2: Press and hold the "SETUP" button until the indicator light stays on, then release.

Step 3: Press and release the desired device button on the remote (TV, DVD, CBL/SAT, etc.). The indicator light will blink once and then remain on.

Step 4: With the remote pointed at the device, press and release the "POWER" button on the remote once. Wait patiently until the remote sends a batch of 10 codes to the device. The indicator light will blink once for each code and remain on after sending the 10 codes. Repeat this step again and again until your device turns off.

Step 5: When the device turns off, manually turn the device back on.

Step 6: With the remote pointed at the device, press and release the "VOL+" button until the device turns off. The remote will resend the last 10 codes one by one. Be sure to wait approximately 3 seconds after each "VOL+" button press to allow the device time to respond.

Step 7: When the device turns off, press and release the same device button you pressed in Step 3 to store the code.

Notes:

  • The "VOL–" button can be used to go backwards through each batch of 10 codes.
  • The indicator light will flash 2 times after testing the first or last code in each batch of 10.
  • Test the buttons on the remote to see if the device responds as you would expect. If not all buttons work as they should, repeat this process to search for a better code.
  • Repeat this process for each device you wish to control.

Auto Code Search (for older models)

Step 1: Manually turn on the device you wish to control.

Step 2: Press and hold the "SETUP" button until the indicator light stays on, then release.

Step 3: Press and release the desired device button on the remote (TV, DVD, CBL/SAT, etc.). The indicator light will blink once and then remain on.

Step 4: Point the remote at the device and press and release the "POWER" button (for TV) or "PLAY" button (for DVD, VCR, etc.) to start the search. The indicator light will flash (approximately every 2 seconds) as the remote searches. Note: the remote must be pointed at your device for the whole duration of this search!

Step 5: Place your finger on the #1 button so you are prepared to lock-in the code.

Step 6: When the device shuts off or begins playing, press the #1 button to lock-in the code. The indicator light will turn off. Note: You have approximately 2 seconds after the device shuts off or begins playing to lock-in the code.

Step 7: Point the remote at the device and check if the remote operates the device as desired. If it does, no further programming is required. If it does not, return to step 2 and start the auto search again.
