Direct code entry instructions

Step 1: Press and hold the device key (TV, VCR, SAT, etc) you wish to program. The illuminated "POWER" key turns on and remains on.

Step 2: While holding down the device key, use the number keys on the keypad to enter your equipment's code. The "POWER" key goes off after entering the first digit.

Step 3: After the 5th number is entered, keep holding down the device key and look at the "POWER" key. If the "POWER" key is illuminated, you're done. If it blinked 4 times and turned off, you have either entered a code number that is not in the code lists or missed something in the code entry procedure. In that case, repeat the process from Step 1 and try the next code in the list.

Step 4: Release the device key and test the remote with your equipment to make sure it works. If you can't control all of your device's functions, try a different code from the list.

Notes:

  • Some models have a LED indicator light in place of the illuminated "Power" or "ON/OFF" key.
  • If your brand isn't listed in the code lists, use Brand Code Search, Auto Search or Manual Code Search method described below.
  • If you release the device key any time during the Direct Code Entry procedure, the POWER key blinks 4 times and the process exits. The last programmed code under the device key is retained.

Brand Code Search

The Brand Code Search goes through only the codes for one of the select brands listed in the table below. If your brand of device is present, this search will be very quick and easy. If your brand is not listed, use the direct code entry method or initiate a code search.

Each device key is associated with a type of device: the TV is preset to search for TVs, DVD for DVD players etc.,

Step 1: Manually turn on the device you want to control.

Step 2: Press and hold the device key you want to program (the "POWER" key will illuminate). While you're holding down the device key, use your other hand to press and hold the remote's "POWER" key at the same time (the "POWER" key will turn off).

Step 3: Wait until the "POWER" key comes on and stays on, then release both keys.

Step 4: Find your device's brand in the Brand Code list below and type them in.

Step 5: Point the remote directly at the front panel of the device you want to control. Keep pressing "GUIDE•HOME" (or "POWER") every 2 seconds until your device turns off.

Step 6: When your device turns off, press the "POWER" key to turn it back on. Then test a few commonly used keys to make sure they work (e.g. VOL+ , CH+, etc.). If the keys work, press "OK/ENTER" (or "STOP") to save this code.

Notes:

  • During the Brand Code Search, the remote ignores keypresses that aren't part of the search. Search keys are VOL+, CH+, POWER, and 0. The search times out after 2 minutes (the "POWER" key blinks 4 times and the last programmed code under that device key is retained).
  • The "POWER" key blinks 4 times when the remote has gone through all the codes The remote exits the Brand Code Search. If your device hasn't turned off yet, try direct code entry.
  • If the original remote control that came with your device has separate ON and OFF keys (instead of a single POWER key), the Brand Code Search might not work. Try the Direct Code Entry method described above.
  • To exit without saving a new code at any point in the Brand Code Search, press "EXIT•BACK" key.

Auto Code Search

The Auto Code Search method may take a long time because the remote will go through all of the codes in its memory. Therefore, if your brand appears in the code lists you should try first the Direct Code Entry method described above.

Step 1: Manually turn on your equipment you want to control.

Step 2: Press and hold the device button (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.) you wish to program. The illuminated "POWER" key turns on and remains on.

Step 3: While holding the device button down, press and hold the "POWER" key. The illuminated "POWER" key turns off.

Step 4: Wait until the remote' s "POWER" key comes on and stays on, then release both keys. The illuminated "POWER" key remains on.

Step 6: Press and release the "SLOW" (or "PLAY") button, then wait 5 seconds to see if your component turns off. If your component does not respond, continue to press the "SLOW" key every 5 seconds until your component turns off. Each time you press the "SLOW" key, the illuminated "POWER" key blinks and a block of 10 codes are sent to your device. This process continues until all of the codes have been searched. If your device has not turned off after all codes have been searched, the illuminated "POWER" key blinks 4 times and the Auto Code Search Entry procedure exits.

Step 7: When your equipment turns off, you know'll that the correct code is in the last block of 10 codes sent. Press and release the "SKIP BACK" (or "REVERSE") key, Wait 2 seconds to see if your component turns on again. If your component does not respond, continue to press the "SKIP BACK" button every 2 seconds until your component turns on again. This will isolate the correct code in the last block of codes sent. Each time the "SKIP BACK" key is pressed, the illuminated "POWER" key blinks.

Note: If you accidentally press the "SKIP BACK" button after your device responds, press and release the "SKIP FWD" (or "FORWARD") key. Wait 2 seconds to see if your component turns off again.

Step 8: Once your component turns on, you have found the correct code. You must save the new code by pressing and releasing the "OK/ENTER" (or "STOP") key. The illuminated "POWER" key turns off.

Note: If you own a remote like the RCR313BR, RCR413BZ, etc. you must press "PLAY" instead of "SLOW", "REVERSE" instead of "SKIP BACK", "FORWARD" instead of "SKIP FWD" and "STOP" instead of "OK/ENTER".

Manual Code Search

The Manual Code Search takes you one-by-one through all the codes for the device you're trying to control. When you find the one that operates your device, you stop the search and store that code.

Step 1: Manually turn on the equipment you want the remote to control and keep the remote pointed at it.

Step 2: Press and hold the component key (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.) you wish to program. The LED indicator light turns on and remains on.

Step 3: While holding the component key down, press and hold the "POWER" key. The LED indicator light turns off.

Step 4: After holding down both keys for a few seconds, the LED indicator light turns back on.

Step 5: Release both keys. The LED indicator light remains on.

Step 6: Press and release the "SKIP FWD" (or "POWER") key repeatedly until your component turns off. Each time you press the "SKIP FWD" key, the LED indicator light blinks, and the next code in the list is sent. This process continues until all of the codes in the Code Lists have been searched. If your component turns off, you have found the correct code.

Because there are so many codes, you may have to press the "SKIP FWD" (or "POWER") key many times - up to a few hundred times.

Step 7: Once you have found the correct code, you must save the new code by pressing and releasing the "OK/ENTER" (or "STOP") key.

Note: With some remotes like the RCR313BR, RCR414BHZ, etc. you must press "POWER" intead of "SKIP FWD" to send the IR codes in step 6 and "STOP" instead of "OK/ENTER" to store the code.

Code Retrieval

If you used one of the Code Search methods above to program your remote you may want to record the codes for future reference. Retrieving the actual code and writing it down will save you time if you ever need to program the remote again (when you change the batteries for example). If the codes are recorded, you can use the Direct Entry method to reprogram your remote to control your device, which is quick and easy.

Step 1: Press and hold the component key (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.) whose code you wish to retrieve. The illuminated POWER key turns on.

Step 2: While holding the device key down, press and hold the "POWER" key. The illuminated "POWER" key will turn off.

Step 3: After holding down both keys for 3 seconds, the illuminated "POWER" key turns back on.

Step 4: Release both keys. The illuminated "POWER" key remains lit.

Step 5: Starting with the number 1 key, press and release each number key on the keypad in the following order: 1 to 9, then 0. The number that causes the illuminated "POWER" key to blink is the first number of the code.

Step 6: Repeat step 5 until you have retrieved all five numbers in the code.

Step 7: After the fifth number is retrieved, the illuminated "POWER" key blinks briefly, then turns off.

Notes:

  • TV codes begin with the number 1, VCR codes begin with the number 2, DVD codes begin with the number 3, Satellite receivers cable boxes, codes begin with the number 5.
  • To exit the Code Retrieval Mode, press and release the "EXIT•BACK" button at any time.
  • If you press an invalid key during the Code Retrieval process, the remote will not respond.
  • If you do not press a valid Code Retrieval key (TV, SAT, etc.), Code Retrieval times out after 15 seconds. The "POWER" key blinks 4 times, and then turns off.
