Programming with brand codes (P265 & P283)

Verizon Fios P265 remote

Step 1: Turn on your TV and the FiOS STB. Make sure you can see live television.

Step 2: Press and hold the "OK" and "0" keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 3: Enter the 3-digit code for your TV's brand. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 4: Press and release the "CH+" button repeatedly until the TV turns off. Some TVs may respond slower than others, so wait at least 1 second after each button press. You can also go backwards if you accidentally skipped the working code by pressing the "CH-" button.

Step 5 (Optional): Turn the TV on using the "TV Power" key, then press "VOL+", "VOL-", "Mute" and "A/V" (or "Input") keys to make sure they work. If a key does not work as expected, press and hold that key. Release it as soon as it works.

Step 6: Press "OK" to save your settings. The LED will blink 3 times and then turn off. Your remote control is now programmed for your TV!

Notes:

  • If you press the "CH+" button many times and the lights on the remote start to flash rapidly, it means the remote tried all the codes for that brand. If your TV did not respond to any of them, try the Code Search method below, which scans the complete database for all TV codes.
  • If you don't press any buttons for 60 seconds, the remote control will automatically exit programming mode.
  • If you think you made a mistake with programming your remote in any step of the procedure, you can always press the "Exit" button and start over. The LED will turn off when the remote exits programming mode.

Code Search (P265 & P283)

Step 1: Turn on your TV and the FiOS STB. Make sure you can see live television.

Step 2: Press and hold the "OK" and "FiOS TV" keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 3: Press and hold down the "▶" (Play) button until your TV turns off. This could take up to 15 minutes. The remote control will try a new TV code every second, and the LED will blink each time a new code is sent. When the TV turns off, stop pressing the play button right away.

Step 4 (Optional): Turn the TV on using the "TV Power" key, then press "VOL+", "VOL-", "Mute" and "A/V" (or "Input") keys to make sure they work. If a key does not work as expected, press and hold that key. Release it as soon as it works.

Step 5: Press "OK" to save your settings. The LED will blink 3 times and then turn off. Your remote control is now programmed for your TV!

Notes:

  • This code search method could take up to 15 minutes, as the remote must go through over 500 codes. The most common codes are tried first, but you may need to hold down the Play button for a while to locate the correct code.
  • Once you have tried all the TV codes in the remote control, the LED and the backlit buttons will flash 4 times rapidly, the LED will turn off and the remote will exit the programming mode.
  • Some TVs may respond slower than others. If your TV does not turn on after pressing "TV Power" in Step 4, it probably means you have skipped over your TV's code. You can press the "CH-" or "CH+" buttons to go back or forward one TV code at a time.
  • If you think you made a mistake with programming your remote in any step of the procedure, you can always press the "Exit" button and start over. The LED will turn off when the remote exits programming mode.

Key Fix (P265 & P283)

If your remote control is programmed for your TV, but some of the keys (e.g., "VOL+", "VOL-", "Mute" or the "A/V" keys) do not work correctly, you can try the following to fix the button(s):

Step 1: Press and hold the "OK" and "*" (or "CC") keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 2: Press and hold the key that does not work as it should until it sends the correct command. The remote control will try a new code every second. Once the TV responds correctly, release the button.

Step 3: Press "OK" to save the current settings and exit programming mode.

Control TV volume through STB (P265 & P283)

If the volume control keys don't work with your TV, you can program the remote so that the STB will control the volume.

Step 1: Press and hold the "OK" and "2" keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 2: Press "9" "5" "5". The LED will blink twice and then remain on.

Step 3: Press "STB Power". The LED will blink 3 times and then turn off.

Note:

  • If you want to change it back again, so that volume buttons control the TV's volume, follow the same steps as above but press "TV Power" in Step 3.

Power control (P265 & P283)

Your remote has separate power buttons for the TV and STB. You can program the "STB Power" key to turn on/off both your TV and STB at the same time.

Step 1: Press and hold the "OK" and "2" keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

To clear all previous programming and return the remote control to its original factory defaults, follow this procedure:

Step 1: Press and hold the "OK" and "2" keys together for a few seconds, then release both. The LED will blink twice and then stay on.

Step 2: Press "9" "0" "0". The LED will blink 3 times and then turn off to indicate that the original settings are restored.

Verizon Fios Philips RC1445302 remote

Direct code entry (Philips RC144)

The Philips RC144 remote comes from the factory ready to control your FiOS TV STB. However, "VOL+", "VOL-" and "Mute" will not control your TV until you program the remote with the brand of TV you have.

In addition to your STB and TV, your remote can also control two additional devices, for example, a DVD player and an audio receiver. Every device must be programmed in separately. To program your remote, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press and hold the device key you want to program (e.g., "TV", "DVD", "AUX" or "STB"). While holding down the device key, press the "OK" key. Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Enter a 4-digit code. The device key will blink 3 times.

Step 3: To test if this is the correct code, point the remote at your device and press "Power". If the device turns off, you have successfully programmed your remote. If the device does not turn off, repeat all the steps with the next code in the list.

Notes:

  • If some of the keys on the remote do not operate your device as you would expect, then you can try the next code in the list for your brand.
  • You can assign a DVD or VCR to the DVD key. The AUX key is reserved for audio receivers, amplifiers and VCR.
  • The remote will exit programming mode after 20 seconds if no key is pressed.

Step 6: Press "OK" to store the code.

Notes:

  • There are over 300 TV and DVD codes. The most common codes are tried first, but you may still need to press over 300 times to find the right code. If you reach the end of the list of codes the entire remote will flash twice and return to normal operation.
  • You can exit programming at any time by pressing "Exit".

Volume Lock (Philips RC144)

In default mode, the volume keys will always control the TV volume even when you are in STB or DVD modes and will only control the volume of the AUX device when in AUX mode. This is the way most people will want the remote to work. However, you can change how the volume keys work.

If you want the volume keys to always control the AUX device regardless of the mode you are in, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press and hold the "STB" key. While holding down the "STB" key, press "OK". Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "5" "5". The STB key will blink twice.

Step 3: Press "AUX". The "AUX" key will blink 3 times to indicate success.

Note:

  • To return to controlling the volume via the TV, press "TV" in Step 3. If you want to control the volume through any device (by pressing a device key, then a volume key), press "OK" in step 3. This will also control the volume of your STB in STB mode.

Channel Lock (Philips RC144)

In default mode, the channel keys ("CH+", "CH-" and "Last") control the Set Top Box (STB) even after you press the "TV", "DVD" or "AUX" device key. This is the way most people will want the remote to work. However, you can change the way the channel keys work so that when you press a device key, the channel keys will operate the selected device.

If you want the channel keys to control different devices:

Step 1: Press and hold the "STB" key. While holding down the "STB" key, press the "OK" key. Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "6" "6". The "STB" key will blink twice.

Power Control (Philips RC144)

By default, the "Power" key turns on or off both your STB and TV when you are in STB mode. However, you can re-program how the power key works.

If you want the "Power" key to control multiple devices at once:

Step 1: Press and hold the "STB" key. While holding down the "STB" key, press "OK". Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "7" "7". The "STB" key will blink twice.

Step 3: One after the other, press each device key you want the "Power" key to control in the order you want them to turn on or off.

Step 4: Press "OK" when done. The "STB" key will blink 3 times to indicate success.

For example, to program the "Power" key to turn on or off your TV, AUX and STB, in that order, with one press of "Power", press "STB"+"OK", "9" "7" "7", "TV", "AUX", "STB", "OK".

If you find that your TV and STB do not always turn on or off together as expected, then you should program your remote to power on/off your devices separately.

If you want the "Power" key to control only one device at a time:

Step 1: Press and hold the "STB" key. While holding down the "STB" key, press "OK". Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "7" "7". The "STB" key will blink twice.

Step 3: Press "OK". The "STB" key will blink 3 times to indicate success. Now, to power any device, you will need to press the appropriate device key, then the "Power" key.

Reset the remote to its original factory defaults (Philips RC144)

To clear all previous programming and return the remote control to its original factory defaults, follow this procedure:

Step 1: Press and hold the "STB" key. While holding down the "STB" key, press "OK". Release both keys. The device keys will blink twice.

Step 2: Enter a 4-digit code. The device key LED turns off briefly after each key press. If the remote recognizes the code, the device key's LED blinks 3 times. If not, the LED will turn off.

Step 3: You can now test the remote by pressing "POWER". If your device responds (turns off), you have found the right code. If your device does not respond, repeat the procedure with the next code listed for your brand.

Note:

  • In Step 2, you have 10 seconds to press each digit. If it takes longer than that, the remote times out and you must begin again.

Code Search (Motorola DRC800)

Step 1: Press and hold a device key (e.g., "TV", "AUDIO", "DVD/VCR", "CABLE") for at least 6 seconds. The LEDs for each device key will light up, then the LED for the device you pressed will remain on.

Step 2: Press a function key (such as "Power"). The following function keys are valid for searching: "Power", "Mute", "Play", "CH+" and "Stop". The device key's LED blinks 3 times, then turns off.

Step 3: Point the remote at your device and press "▲" (Up Arrow) button repeatedly until the device responds. The remote will send the IR command for the function you selected in Step 2. You can also press "▼" (Down Arrow) to retry the previous code if you accidentally skipped the one that worked.

Step 4: Press "OK" to save the code.

Code Retrieval (Motorola DRC800)

Step 1: Press and hold a device key (e.g., "TV", "AUDIO", "DVD/VCR", "CABLE") for at least 6 seconds. The LEDs for each device key will light up, then the LED for the device you pressed will remain on.

Step 2: Press "9" "9" "0". The LED will blink twice.

Step 3: Press "1", then count the LED blinks and write down the number. If the LED does not blink, the number is 0. This is the first digit of the device code. Then press "2", "3", and "4" to obtain the rest of the code digits.

Volume Lock (Motorola DRC800)

Locking the volume controls to a single device makes it easier to control volume, without having to guess whether the volume will change. If you lock the remote's volume controls to the TV (for example), you will always be able to change the volume to the level you want, without having to adjust it on multiple devices.

Step 1: Press and hold the device mode key ("TV", "AUDIO", "DVD/VCR" or "CABLE") corresponding to the device you want to control volume, for at least 6 seconds. The LED for each device key lights up, then the key for the device you selected remains on.

Step 2: Press "VOL+" to lock volume or "VOL-" to unlock volume. The device key will blink 3 times.

Notes:

  • The "AUDIO" device key always controls its own volume, regardless of the device is locked to volume control.
  • If you reassign "AUDIO" to another device, such as a second TV, the second TV will always control its own volume.

Reassigning Device Keys (Motorola DRC800)

Each device key accesses a specific type of device (for example, the "DVD/VCR" key can only be programmed to control a DVD player, VCR, DVR, or HTIB system). This makes it easier to search for a code if your device's code does not appear in the code lists.

The Motorola DRC800 remote allows you to change the type of device that may be assigned to a device key. That way, if you have two TVs, for example, you can control them both by changing the type of device of the "DVD/VCR" or "AUDIO" mode keys.

Step 1: Press and hold the device mode key ("TV", "AUDIO", "DVD/VCR", or "CABLE") corresponding to the type of device you want the reassigned key to control (for example, "TV") for at least 6 seconds. The LED for each device key lights up, then the key for the device you selected remains on.

Step 2: Enter "9" "9" "2".

Step 3: Press the device mode key you want to reassign (for example, "AUDIO"). If you want to assign a key back to its original device type, press the device mode key you selected in Step 1 again. That mode key's LED will blink 3 times and will turn off.

Notes:

  • The reassigned key automatically uses the same device code as the key you selected in Step 1. If your second device uses a different code, you may program it for the new code.
  • You may not reassign the "CABLE" device key to another type of device.

Reset all settings (Motorola DRC800)

Step 1: Press and hold a device mode key ("TV", "AUDIO", "DVD/VCR", or "CABLE") or at least 6 seconds. The LED for each device key lights up, then the key for the device you selected remains on.

Step 2: Enter "9" "8" "1". The LED will blink twice to indicate that your remote is returned to its factory settings.

Step 4: Point the remote toward the device, and press "PLAY". The remote automatically tests each code in its library, beginning with the most common codes. The mode key blinks once each time the remote transmits a new code and blinks twice when it reaches the last code.

Step 5: As soon as the device powers off, press "SELECT".

Step 6: Verify the new code is correct by pressing "POWER". If the device powers on, press "SELECT" to save the code. If the device does not respond, press "CH-" or "CH+" to step back or forward to the correct code, and when the device turns off, press "SELECT" to save the code.

Code Retrieval - Finding Out the Code that Worked (AT8550)

Step 1: Press and hold "SELECT" and the appropriate mode key (e.g., "TV", "DVD", "VCR", "AUX", "CBL") until all mode keys blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "9" "0". The current mode key will blink twice.

Step 3: Press "1" and count the number of times the mode key blinks. The number of blinks indicates the first digit in the code. If the mode key does not blink, the digit is 0. Press "2", "3" and "4" for the remaining digits. After all four numbers in the code are identified, all mode keys will blink 3 times.

Power Control (AT8550)

Your Scientific Atlanta AT8550 AllTouch remote is originally programmed in one of the following ways:

  • The remote controls power for only one device at a time. For example, in "CBL" mode the "POWER" key controls the cable box only. However, in "TV" mode, the "POWER" key controls the TV only.
  • The remote controls power for either one device or for multiple devices at once, based on the selected mode. For example, in "CBL mode", the "POWER" key controls both the cable box and the TV at the same time.

Before you change how the power control functions, try your remote to see how the power control currently works. When trying out your remote, keep in mind that the remote provides a temporary override for power control.

For example, if you press the "TV" key and then the "POWER" key within 3 seconds, the remote turns on the TV only, regardless of the programmed power settings. To see how the remote was originally programmed, wait at least 5 seconds before pressing the "POWER" key after you press any mode key.

Does your remote already control power for your cable box and TV at the same time? If not, Scientific Atlanta strongly recommends that you program the remote to turn off the cable box each time you turn off your TV.

Turning off the cable box is especially important for high-end cable boxes that contain hard drives for recording and storing TV programs and movies. Not only will you reduce wear and tear from the hard disk spinning constantly, but you'll also conserve electricity. As long as the cable box remains plugged in, the cable box will receive programming updates, and, if applicable, record programs and movies.

Controlling Power for Multiple Devices at Once (AT8550)

Step 1: Press and hold "SELECT" and "CBL" until all mode keys blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "9" "8". The "CBL" key will blink twice.

Step 3: Press the mode key for the first device in the group of devices you want to power on/off at once. The "CBL" key blinks twice.

Step 4: Press the mode key for the second device in your power group. The "CBL" key will blink twice.

Step 5: If you want the remote to control power for 3 or 4 devices at once, press the mode keys for the next devices you want to add to the power group. The "CBL" key will blink twice after each mode key is pressed.

Step 6: Press "SELECT" to save your power settings. All mode keys will blink 3 times.

Controlling Power for One Device at a Time (AT8550)

Step 1: Press and hold "SELECT" and "CBL" until all mode keys blink twice.

Step 2: Press "9" "9" "8". The "CBL" key will blink twice.

Step 3: Press "SELECT" to save your power settings. All mode keys will blink 3 times.

After you select a mode, the "POWER" key will control the device assigned to that mode. For example, in "TV" mode, the remote will control power for the TV only.

Power Tips:

  • Scientific Atlanta strongly recommends that you program the remote to turn off the cable box each time you turn off your TV.
  • When you turn off the cable box using the remote control, you are actually putting the box in a power saving mode. As long as the cable box remains plugged in, it will continue to receive programming updates and, if applicable, record programs and movies.
  • If your "POWER" key controls multiple devices at once, the remote returns to the "CBL" mode after the devices are powered on or off.
  • If your "POWER" key controls multiple devices at once, you can override this setting by pressing the desired mode key and then pressing "POWER" within 3 seconds. For example, if you press the "VCR" key and then the "POWER" key within 3 seconds, the remote turns just the VCR on or off, regardless of the programmed power settings.

Volume Lock (AT8550)

Your AT8550 remote is originally programmed in one of the following ways:

  • The remote controls volume for one device, such as your TV, whether the remote is in TV, VCR, DVD, or CBL mode. The AUX mode always retains separate volume control.
  • The remote controls volume for different devices, depending on the mode key you press. For example, in CBL mode, the volume keys control the cable box. However, in TV mode, the volume keys control the TV.

Try your remote to see how the volume control currently works. The volume keys include "VOL+", "VOL-", and "MUTE". If you want to change the volume control, complete the procedure that fits your needs.
